Who we are

Michael Hall has worked for more than four decades in the museum field, serving as managing director and CEO in five accredited cultural and history-focused organizations nationwide. His son, James, grew up alongside him during many of these assignments and now serves as his father’s chief executive assistant as they continue their work in museum management.

While serving as Executive Director of the Smithsonian-affiliated National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael and James drafted a manuscript based on their extensive experiences with veterans of the Cold War and nuclear testing. Their resulting book, The Sword of Damocles: Our Nuclear Age, remains highly relevant to today’s concerns over nuclear conflict. Indeed, the threat of nuclear war has not been this high since the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962. This is why the lessons of the past are so vital today. Michael and James share those insights through compelling stories of our nuclear age.

Today, Michael has retired from the sciences and returned to his personal love of art, managing a regional art museum with James. Michael studied both science and the arts, and is a graduate of Spoon River College, Illinois College, Western Illinois University, and an alumnus of Purdue University. James studied at The Las Vegas Art Institute for three years, pursuing majors in English literature and the culinary arts.

Together, Michael and James are continually reminded of their many years spent close to the nuclear weapons field and of their deep understanding of how dangerous today’s rapidly escalating international tensions are for humanity and our fragile planet. They believe the current world situation is truly unprecedented.
